THE AUTHOR
French born Babette Hayes came to Australia in 1964 and within a few years became a household name for her innovative approach to magazine and photographic styling and design. Over the years she worked for many leading magazines, newspapers and design publications. During this time, she also ran her own Design Studio with an impressive list of commercial and private clients. Now a resident in the Southern Highlands, she runs a café in Bowral with her daughter Arabella who was also a major contributor and instigator for Pat’s Kitchen.
THE BOOKS
Babette has published 14 books, including the two she will discuss .Food for Friends was originally written and published in 1979, with the current edition printed in 2022 with a new preface by Babette. Pat’s Kitchen, a delightful collection of recipes, art and memories, is a beautiful hard cover book and a tribute to Babette’s friend Pat Morley. It is a celebration of Patricia’s unique qualities and talents, containing many photographs, memories and of course, delectable recipes.
The idea for the book was born when Babette’s daughter, and Pat Morley’s god-daughter, Arabella Hayes and Pat’s son Lewis came across a collection of her handwritten notes, artwork and recipe clippings from magazines and newspapers. The whole project involved lots of input from family and friends, the result an incredible tribute to a talented woman.
