Moss Vale library upgradesWingecarribee Shire Council is about to embark on building upgrade works at Moss Vale Branch Library as part of the Civic Centre Repair and Refurbishment project. 

In order for construction activities to be undertaken safely the library will close for approximately 12 months from close of business on Saturday 21 December, 2019. 

This project will provide library users with a larger, more accessible and user friendly facility. Included in the work to be undertaken is an additional 60 square metres of space, new shelving, lighting and air conditioning. 

During the temporary closure the Rural Outreach and Delivery Service (ROADS) mobile library service will visit Leighton Gardens between 10am and 4pm each Friday starting 10 January 2020. 

Library item returns can be made at Council's Civic Centre located at 68 Elizabeth Street in Moss Vale, or at Bowral and Mittagong Libraries.

Council thanks residents in advance for their cooperation and apologises for any inconvenience.


Refurbishment features include:

• Updated Library interior and layout

• New accessible library shelving

• Installation of self-checkout units

• Significant increase in seating and tables for general, leisure and study purposes

• Fit for purpose lighting

• Increased floorspace for programs and displays

• Upgraded technology and printing

• Introduction of phone and tablet charging areas

• New display areas


Moss Vale Branch Library Temporary Closure FAQS

When will the Moss Vale library close? Close of business at 12pm Saturday 21 December 2019

How will library services be provided once the library closes? The mobile library will visit Leighton Gardens in Moss Vale once a week and  items can be reserved/requested for collection from this location.  You can also visit the Mobile Library at other stops in the Shire. See the schedule here. Bowral and Mittagong Branch Libraries are operating as usual.

What will be the hours of operation of the Mobile Library at the Leighton Gardens site? The hours for the mobile library will be 10am to 4 pm each Friday from 10 January 2020.  

When will the library re-open? The library will re-open at the end of 2020 or early 2021 at the completion of the Civic Centre Repair and Refurbishment project .

Can I return library items to the Civic Centre when the mobile library isn’t in Moss Vale? Yes. You can take the items to the Council Customer Service Centre and the library will collect each day Mon-Fri .

Can I still reserve items/books etc? Yes, you can either go online and reserve these items as you can now, or call or visit Bowral, Mittagong and mobile libraries.

How can I be kept up to date with progress? You can either Sign up to Library newsletter, visit www.wsc.nsw.gov.au or visit the Library website.

Are there extended borrowing times offered during the closure? No, these will be the same as usual. You can renew online or with a phone call if required.

Will there be storytimes? The library is currently investigating but nothing is planned as yet. We will advise of any decision regarding this program through the Library Website .

What improvements can we look forward to in the updated library? There will be many upgraded services including new accessible shelving, self-check outs, more study tables and chairs, lounges, more modern PCs and technology, charging stations for phones and laptops, larger storytime/craft area, display units for new items and more floorspace.

What other library services will be affected? The Home Library Service will continue. Access to free PCs and WiFi will only be available at the Bowral and Mittagong branch libraries.

The Mobile Library will visit Leighton Gardens between 10 am and 4 pm each Friday starting from 10 January 2020.

You can request your items online, then collect them when ROADS is scheduled to visit your stop. Make sure you choose 'Mobile Library' as your pick up location .
